Talon is firmly rooted in the history and tradition of lacrosse but also works to bring the best of today's technology into the game.
What Talon Is Made Of
Talon combines the superior
tactile grip, soft feel and natural look that only wood can provide
with the strength and light weight of advanced composite shafts.
Our proprietary manufacturing process involves layering a piece
of flawless hardwood over a high-grade fiberglass composite using
a high impact resin and proprietary molding process. Each shaft
is individually handcrafted in the USA to produce the proper strength,
weight and impact properties of each different Talon model.
Why wood? First, the use of wood is our tribute to the hundreds
of years of Native American culture and heritage of lacrosse. We
also use wood because it provides the best look, feel and performance.
The composite core makes the shaft stronger and lighter than solid
wood. Wood is the only material that can flex and return to its
original shape, and it won’t bend or dent like metal shafts.
Wood isn’t temperature sensitive so you can play in the cold
or heat and the stick feels great in your hands. When it gets wet
it creates a tacky feel, so no more slippery sticks. But perhaps
the best reason to use Talon shafts is they deliver punishing checks
that can only come from wood. Ask an offensive player what he’d
rather get checked with—titanium or wood—and you know
why Talon shafts are so popular.
State of the Art Product Testing
Dynamic testing
methods—and on the field play—validate
that Talon products meet the demands of aggressive field or box
play. The best way to determine durability and reliability of Talon
shafts is to mimic hard stick checks and brutal cross checks in
the laboratory under controlled conditions. The testing protocol
is to accurately measure the amount of impact force Talon shafts
can withstand without breaking.
Talon conducts true "application tests.” Talon’s
strength claims are accurate because Talon products are benchmarked
alongside leading manufacturers. The manufacturing process design
and high grade materials used were derived through extensive application
testing, not only PSI ratings of materials. Many shafts claim to
have high PSI numbers even though they have a reputation of breaking
during actual playing situations. Talon’s extensive application
testing is a realistic measure of how well Talon shafts stand up
to the rigors of lacrosse games.
